5 Tips for Buying Shoes for Children

1. Measure
When you measure your child's feet, make sure that they are standing up straight. Measure both feet as a sanity check that you are measuring accurately, but also because their feet may be slightly different sizes. You'll also went to measure at night when their feet may be larger due to swelling. You can order a foot measure which comes in handy when you frequently order shoes online.

2. Don't skimp on support

Children have amazing energy levels and it takes a lot to keep up with them. Personally, I do not feel that this is an age when you want to skimp on shoes.  They do so much running, jumping, and climbing while growing at a rapid pace, so good support is critical.   Select shoes that have good support, including arch support.
3. Look for machine washable shoes
You may want to make sure that the shoes are machine washable since many children can't resist sand, mud, and more! Look for labels on shoes that are " Machine Washable". Personally, we love machine washable shoes since they are easy to clean without much effort on our part.

4. Look for shoes with inserts
Order shoes that have inserts so that you receive extra mileage despite growth spurts. Some children can grow by as many as two shoe sizes in just one year!  If you aren't already familiar with shoes that accommodate growth spurts, let me share the good news.  Some of the brands of shoes come with inserts to make the shoes fit tighter. You then remove the extra insert as your child grows.  It's such a simple concept and works wonders.

5. Ask your child for their opinion, but also inspect their feet
Ask your child to wear the shoes and whether they are comfortable. Depending on their age, they may not be accurate, so be sure to inspect their feet as well. Make sure that there are no red marks or blisters from rubbing.
