Top 5 Classic Dr. Martens Shoes

Dr. Martens shoes, also commonly known as Docs, are distinguished by their yellow stitching, boot-like construction and air-cushioned soles. The Dr. Martens brand was born in 1960 following German Dr. Maertens' invention of the air-cushioned sole following a ski injury. In the early years of their existence, Dr. Martens shoes became synonymous with youth subcultures. Wearers customize and decorate the classic Dr. Martens show to their liking allowing the shoe to grow into a cultural icon over the decades. In 2014, Dr. Martens commemorates its rich history through its line of classic shoes, known as "Originals." Here are five of the most popular and recognizable classic Dr. Martens Shoes.
1
The 1461 Shoe
The 1461 ShoeThe 1461 is the quintessential classic Dr. Martens shoe. It features all of the same iconic qualities as the company's original design, along with durability and comfort. The standard 1461 shoe features three eyelets, a smooth leather finish, and the famous slip-resistant air-cushioned sole. The 1461 is welted with Goodyear PVC, and is sewn together to help the shoe take the shape of the wearer's foot, a sewing process that is unique to Dr. Martens. It is a unisex shoe in the "Comfort Last" line, with a fuller shape in the toe.
The 1461 is available in a wide array of colors, including floral patterns, pewter, gold, and the classic cherry red leather. The shoe is also available is a variety of materials. The Vegan Collection, for example, uses a synthetic material instead of leather for the vegan consumer. Alternatively, the For Life collection is made from a matte-finished, durable Hardlife Leather.

The 1925 Shoe
The 1925 ShoeThe 1925 is another one of Dr. Martens' Core Collection shoes. It features a steel toe, three eyelets, and fine Haircell leather, giving it a natural grain finish. Like the 1461, Dr. Martens constructs it with Goodyear PVC and sews the shoe to the sole. The sole is not air-cushioned, but it is hard-wearing with good abrasion and slip resistance. Those looking for an authentic safety shoe should look elsewhere, as the steel toe cap is merely a fashion element.
Dr. Martens' variation of the 1925 shoe, the 1925 PW, has a smooth finished leather rather than Haircell leather. It is also plain-welted, and thus lacks the characteristic yellow stitching. The 1925 PW does however come with Dr Martens' famous air-cushioned sole, unlike the 1925.

The 3989 Shoe
The 3989 ShoeThe 3989 shoe looks like so many different shoes, because it is available in so many different styles. Every variation features five eyelets and a different take on the classic Brogue shoe, a low-heeled shoe with sturdy leather perforations. The 3989 is available in polished Wyoming leather as part of the Heston Collection, which combines a stiff sole with a sleek body. Alternatively, you could opt for the 3989 from the Core Milled Collection. This shoe provides a vintage, rural appearance with its distressed Crazy Horse leather. If you are looking for a classic shoe with a more modern design, the 3989 BEX's black and white leather finish and thick sole distinguish it from the rest. Whatever style, material and color you prefer in a shoe, the 3989 is certain to have what you are looking for in a classic Dr. Martens shoe.

4
The Steed Shoe
The Steed ShoeDr. Martens delivers classic style along with vintage flair with their Steed shoe. While most new Dr. Martens shoes are made in Asia, the Steed, as part of the company's Vintage range, are constructed in the original English factory. To replicate the technique and quality of the original Dr. Martens shoes, cobblers handcraft the Steed with the company's original technique. It features three eyelets in the style of the 1461 shoe, and the famous air-cushioned sole. But, the most attractive element of the Steed is the Quilon leather, which is reissued from the original Dr. Martens classic corrected-grain leather. It is available in both oxblood and black.

5
The 8065 Mary Jane Shoe
The 8065 Mary Jane ShoeThe 8065 Mary Jane is a double-strap women's shoe and another member of Dr. Marten's Core Collection. It offers style with its full-grain, rub-off Dr. Martens leather, and comfort with its slip-resistant air-cushioned sole. The iconic top straps allow your feet to breathe, and are adjustable for various feet sizes. The 8065 is available in vintage red, smooth black, and harvest dark brown.
